Below you can find details of two &#8216;<strong>direct delivery<\/strong>&#8216; experiences, which involve Neil working with a group of <strong>your pupils<\/strong> to strengthen their practice in classroom dialogue \/ P4C and to enable them to support others. The courses are informed by recent research, and by a great deal of experience! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Advantages of this model include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:0px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>no necessity for cover for teachers;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>authentic training and leadership opportunity for pupils;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the opportunity for one or more teachers  \/ TAs to join the session and so gain professional development;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a greater likelihood that new practice will become embedded in classroom culture. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The courses are most suitable for pupils in <strong>Key Stage 2 or Key Stage 3<\/strong>. Groups of between 12 and 30 pupils will be accepted. Neil is an affiliate of Oracy Cambridge, and co-author (with Professor Rupert Wegerif) of the book <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Dialogic-Education-Mastering-concepts-thinking\/dp\/1138656526\">Dialogic Education: mastering core concepts through thinking together. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This course aims to:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>enable pupils to participate more effectively in whole-class and small-group dialogue;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>increase the effectiveness of group work;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>enable pupils to lead dialogue with their peers;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>develop pupils&#8217; appreciation of the nature and value of dialogue in and beyond education. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Components of the course include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>an exploration of dialogue, its value and how it relates to other forms of cummunication;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the development of &#8216;ground rules&#8217; for effective dialogue;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>skills development exercises including listening, questioning and responding;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>engagement in whole- and small-group dialogues<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>leading others in dialogue<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>peer tutoring<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:14px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#c4d600\"><strong>Contact neil@21stcenturylearners.org.uk now to book a course for your pupils. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pupil Leaders of P4C<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This course is informed by Neil&#8217;s years of experience as a P4C trainer with SAPERE and DIalogue Works, and by his wider work on dialogic teaching and learning (see above). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The course aims to:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>develop pupils&#8217; appreciation of the nature and value of P4C;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>develop pupils&#8217; confidence and ability to participate in enquiries;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>teach advanced skills to deepen enquiries;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>enable pupils to take a leading role in enquiries and the development of P4C in the school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Components of the course include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>participation in an in-depth enquiry;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>exercises to develop pupils&#8217; ability to raise valuable enquiry questions;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>skills development exercises including the use of philosophical language;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>concept development exercises;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a closer look at the 4Cs and their role in scaffolding reflection and progress;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a workshop on the facilitation of enquiries. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:19px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#c4d600\"><strong>Contact neil@21stcenturylearners.org.uk now to book a course for your pupils. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CPD for teachers isn&#8217;t always the most efficient or cost-effective way of bringing about lasting change in the classroom.
