21st Century Learners is the business of Dr Neil Phillipson. After a career as a medicinal chemist in the pharmaceutical industry Neil became a secondary school science teacher in 1999 and a Head of Science in Stoke-on-Trent in 2006. He worked as a local authority consultant in Stoke from 2009 – 2012, becoming more involved with primary education and teaching in Year 2 from 2012 – 2013 – he has some experience of teaching in all five key stages. Neil started 21st Century Learners in 2013.
In addition to the work described on the home page, Neil is a facilitator of ‘global dialogues’ with Generation Global, a tutor and P4C lead at Keele and North Staffordshire Teacher Education (KNSTE) and a hub-leader for the Primary Science Quality Mark.
Publications
Neil is co-author of this 2017 book on Dialogic Education, with Rupert Wegerif, now Professor of Education at Cambridge University.
He also joined with Rupert to contribute a chapter on Thinking Together to this 2019 book.
Neil contributed a chapter to Sapere’s 2012 book ‘Philosophy for Children through the Secondary Curriculum.
