Philosophy for Children and Oracy training

SAPERE- validated Level 1 (foundation) training in Philosophy for Children (P4C)

Course Overview
The course will: introduce the theory and practice of P4C; provide tools to develop your students’ questioning and thinking skills; connect P4C to the curriculum; demonstrate philosophical enquiry in practice; present P4C resources and sources of teaching materials. P4C Across the Curriculum Workshop 1: Aesthetic enquiry – P4C in Art

Date and time: November 30th 2023, 13:00 – 16:30
Venue: The Bridge Centre, Birches Head Road, Stoke-on-Trent, ST2 8DD
Cost: £90 including refreshments (£70 is for schools booking all 5 P4C across the Curriculum sessions)

Course Overview
In this course we’ll consider using images for the sake of understanding them better as images; in other words, we’ll practise aesthetic enquiry. We’ll do several mini-enquiries and exercises with pictures, and consider the special power of aesthetic enquiry for giving participants the experience of making meaning from images while also deepening their understanding of the pictorial conventions represented by the images.

Course Overview
Using the Philosophy for Children enquiry approach in the Early Years can be a powerful tool to support young children’s Communication, Language and Personal and Social Emotional Development. This course will explore ways practitioners can use the principles of P4C to enhance existing best practice in the Early Years. Practitioners will gain confidence in their facilitating role and their ability to deepen children’s thinking skills for the youngest of children, ensuring all children are given a voice.
